Press release: FlowerTrials^® 2024 - the anniversary edition at Selecta one and Evanthia

Westland’s breeding company Evanthia provides yet again an interesting, broad presentation of its range of pot and bedding plants, tropical plants and cut flowers – full of colour, novelties and an enthusiastic team with countless new ideas. Together with growers, Evanthia prepares for the future by actively working on product development, new cultivation methods and climate adaptive solutions. By making conscious choices for the range of products (seasonal products, cool grown crops e.g.), but also by adapting existing popular products with improved genetic features (compactness, drought tolerance e.g.), Evanthia offers solutions to make a difference for all links in the chain.

Evanthia is taking steps in the right direction, together with potted sunflower growers, towards a better product that can be grown in a more efficient and sustainable way. The new line Helianthus annuus F1 Sunsation^® Compact has all the good qualities of the successful Sunsation^® series, but now has a strong genetic compactness, enabling a more balanced, stress-free cultivation. Growers can grow without PGR, dry cycles or high EC levels, as the plants remain super compact by themselves. In addition, cultivation time is even 5 to 7 days shorter and Sunsation^® Compact shows healthy, smooth, fresh-green leaves!

In the tropical plants range, Evanthia shows exciting new Alocasia and Philodendron varieties. A bold collection of over 125 tropical varieties will be on display, featuring the trending Strelitzia nicolai and Monstera deliciosa, as well as broad ranges of Asparagus and Cordyline, side-by-side with rare and true plant collector’s items. Evanthia also explains about the different seed treatments the company has to offer, and visitors can even cast their votes for future tropical varieties. As icing on the cake, Evanthia presents cut flowers, seasonal flowers and foliage, with plenty of new additions Antirrhinum, Celosia, Dianthus and Tanacetum.

Selecta welcomes to an informative event full of diverse variety presentations and unique display areas. The extensive assortment will be on display in various product forms. The Verbena Drums^®, Osteospermum Type 252 and Calibrachoa MiniFamous^® Oro Double series, known for their compact and homogeneous varieties, will be shown in realistic POS situations. Trixi^®, the new impressive AlpeTunia^® petunias and the upgraded dahlia range Dalaya^® will be presented in hanging baskets and large containers. Lantanas from the Sun Juana^® series defy the sun, require little water and will present their extraordinary colours.

More highlights from the Selecta one range:
ONE in Dianthus – the Selecta carnation programme stands for leading brands, proven varieties, and innovative new launches. Aura, last season’s new introduction, has been given its own marketing concept and now pairs up with the variety Colón. Oscar^®, the most homogeneous series on the market, is being expanded to include the ‘Antique Pink’ variety in nostalgic pink with a lighter-coloured edge. The successful PINK KISSES^® brand also takes centre stage at the carnation presentation. This year PINK KISSES^® will be showcased in the PINK MATCH! campaign as a recognisable symbol for friendship dates. The new, exclusive LUCKY LIPS^® brand concept, which is currently being launched in many European countries, will also be presented.

The intergeneric series ‘The Power Sisters’ combines the best of Calibrachoa and petunias: Large, early flowers, good branching, and bright colours as well as good summer performance and high rain tolerance. They are also available as a Trixi^® combination. The new Mandevilla, which is marketed under the name ‘Divina^®’ with its own marketing concept, stands for beauty and radiant elegance on the balcony and in the garden.  Subdivided into Compact, Climbing and Uni, each series offers special advantages for end products in various shapes and pot sizes. They all impress with their growth and magnificent colours.

Selecta is presenting two other crops that are suitable both as flowering houseplants and as outdoor plantings. Kaleida, Selecta’s Kalanchoe series, includes single and double flowering varieties that are characterised by beautiful large flowers, bright colours, a rich, long-lasting flowering habit, and strong branching. KoSea is the new Campanula perennial series in the Selecta range. The three varieties in blue and white are compact and easy to grow, can be used in a variety of ways and also look great as decorative plants in interiors. Two perfect year-round plants.

Traditionally, all FleuroStar candidates will be exhibited at the Selecta location and the Stuttgart-based breeder’s own entry will also be on display for the first time at the FlowerTrials^®. As host of the FleuroStar Award Evening, Selecta will be organising the gala dinner and the announcement of the new FleuroStar winner on June 13, 2024.
