Beaucarnea / Nolina recurvata
Beaucarnea recurvata, also called Nolina recurvata, often gets mistaken for a palm, but actually is a semi succulent. This unique looking tree-like perennial has a large swollen trunk, which stores water. The dark green leaves are long and thin and emerge from the trunk like a fountain. Beaucarnea recurvata is native to arid-tropical parts of Mexico where it grows in mountain forests and on rocky cliffs. Beaucarnea recurvata is a well-known robust, sun-loving houseplant. In mild to warmer climates it can be used as a waterwise patio plant or for landscaping. Outdoors it can grow to a full-size tree. Beaucarnea recurvata is commonly known as Ponytail palm, Bottle palm or Elephant's foot. Other internationally used common names for Beaucarnea or Nolina recurvata are: Big Base Palm, Desert Pony Tail Palm, Ponytail Nolina; Elephant foot tree. Evanthia has Beaucarnea recurvata starting material available all year round, as seed and young plants from seed. Ask our team for the Beaucarnea / Nolina cultivation manual for commercial production.
